So, my past experience I have always used a Crystal shield for pking. Having checks forums I see only spirit shields on there.  I hate donating  an extra 150k when it could be 1k (Crystal seed) to mains in rag

Crystal shields are actually preferred for tanking. So it's perfectly fine. Better price too
